The Turner Five Spot has been the undisputed champ of the Turner bike line since 2002. It’s their best seller by a long shot, and in large part has defined Turner’s existence in recent years. Now it’s even better, as it’s the beneficiary of a number of changes, including the name. With an increase in travel to 5.5″ (140mm), the Five has been dropped, and is offically dubbed what most of us called it all along — the Turner Spot.

After years of testing and designing bikes, Turner continues to manipulate the axle path of the rear wheel when designing his bikes to determine the pedaling dynamics he desires. After years of licensing the Horst link to accomplish this, Turner has unveiled a new design dubbed TNT — Torque Neutralizing Technology. The axle path of the new design mirrors the old to within 1.1mm at the peak of travel, on the 5.5” travel Turner Spot. In both our tests and many others, each has found this calculated difference to be negligible in the field. We attribute this in large part to Turner’s careful placement of the pivots that help to control and limit the lengthening of the chain during the shock cycle, so you’ll feel no suspension-induced “kick-back”.

The Spot is a 5.5″ inch travel bike designed to handle virtually any situation. Critically acclaimed since it was first introduced as the Five Spot, the 2008 Turner Spot features a TNT suspension equipped with a Fox Float RP23 rear shock, giving it its most pedal-efficient platform ever. This is highlighted by redesigned rockers and asymmetrical chain stay. The asymmetrical design and forging process of the stays combined with the girder-like forged rockers, provides improved lateral rigidity to the Spot, and adds even more front derailleur clearance. All this is done without sacrificing any of the trademark Turner tire clearance.

The Turner Spot doesn’t just ride like a dream, it’s engineered to take a pounding. A reinforced head tube gusset ensures the frame will withstand the stress of the 5.5” travel fork recommended by Turner for use with the Spot. And a CNC-machined bottom bracket shell with an integrated lower shock mount provides torsional stiffness.

The disc-specific Turner Spot is XXL and is available only in a raw finish. It requires a 27.2mm seatpost and a 34.9 mm Traditional Top Pull Front Derailleur.

2008 Turner 5.5 Spot suspension frame with FOX RP23 shockThe frame size is Medium, 5.5″ (140mm) of rear wheel travel, painted dark blue main frame, polished stays, and weights 6.2lbs / 3kg. MADE IN USAThis is the last year of the 5 Spot that used the 4 bar linkage, which means it has all the design improvements and tweaks from over the years since 2003. Frame is in excellent condition. I rode it in the 2008 season when it was new, but it has very few rides because i ended up riding more single speed or had to travel a lot for work. This is an ALL MOUNTAIN frame and i had it built with heavier duty parts and a 145mm fork (all together a 290mm or 11″ bike). I would not recommend this bike for light weight cross country. 1 1/8″ headtube, 135mm rear hub spacing.Note, this frame has a knick on the top tube between the headtube and cable stops.  Unfortunately this happened during disassembly of the bike and the sharp tool to remove the headset cups made contact with the frame.  The knick is cosmetic and i have taken a clear, closeup photo showing this area.The frame head tube and BB shell have been properly faced. Turner is famous for using durable journal bearings (bushings) instead of ball bearings in the suspension pivots, and all the bushings on this frame are tight and properly maintained. 2005 Turner Flux, medium, Fox RP3 air shock, Horst Link rear end, disc brake only, has some miles but still in nice shape. There is a small dent in the down tube near the bottom bracket, a very small dent in the seat stay, and a scratch on the top tube near the brake hose guide, none which will affect the performance of this frame. There are other misc. use scratches but the bushings are tight and the shock works great. Some frame specs are 23.3″ top tube, 17″ seat tube, 4″ head tube, 31″ standover, 70 degree head angle, 73.5 degree seat tube angle. Turner Bikes can repaint and rebuild this frame for $275.00 which would make it look like new. US shipping only.

This is a USED 2007 Turner RFX frame.

This frame belongs to a friend of mine that raced for the Turner – Honda Race Team.

This is a custom frame, that belonged to a staff member at Turner. It was built in 2007, and yes, it was built with the Horst Link, and with the chainguide mounts. When Turner went to the other frame design this employee was unable to ride this frame, so he sold it to my friend. 

He recently found a small crack where the “taco” meets up with the seat tube. He sent it to Turner, and they refurbished the frame for him, by replacing the seat tube and the bracing that is attached to it. Also the bushings are all new.   The frame now has a 28.6 diameter seat tube, instead of the original 27.2 diameter. They also repainted it metallic blue. Other than the rockers showing wear, this frame looks like new!

It still has the Horst Link rear suspension design, and provides just over 6″ of travel.

You’ll also get both, a FOX DHX Coil & DHX Air rear shock with the frame. Both shocks are in working condition according to my friend. The coil shock does not come with a spring.

The frame without the rear shock mounted, weighs just 7 pounds.

I already know that this frame was not using the Horst Link in 2007, so please, hold your comments. Once again, this is a custom built frame.

Seat tube from center of the BB, to top of the seat tube is 18.5″.

The top tube measures 22.5″ from the center of the seat tube to the center of the head tube.

2007 TURNER RFX

The frame is used but in great condition, there is no damage to the frame and is in 100% working condition.  All pivots were maintained with Manitou M-prep on a regular basis.  The shock is a custom Avalanche Montie.  The frame is a size large and the color is bronze powdercoat.  There are some areas on the frame that were scuffed from the shift and brake cables.  The rear brake line wore a 1mm deep gouge in the seat stay (see pictures) but has not caused any structural issues.  Bottom bracket threads are in perfect condition as well as headtube and disc brake mount.  Frame and shock specs are listed below, please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Excellent condition 2008 Turner Flux. Size Large. It was ridden for about one season and then put away due to an injury. Hasn’t been ridden since last summer. There are few minor cosmetic blemishes and one dent in the downtube (see picture). I talked with the guys from Turner and sent them a picture and they said it wasn’t a structural problem and could be ridden as is. There is also a rub mark from the rear disc cable housing on the rear swingarm (in picture). This bike has the RP23 shock. Also included with the frame is a silver Chris King headset.Now for the extras included. I have a brand new front triangle (due to the rock dent), a used Horst Link rear end from 2006 or 2007. The Horst link rear end is compatible with the new frame. An extra set of rockers and bolts.Finally this bike comes with fully upgraded Titanium shock link bolts. This offers a considerable weight savings and no real downside. It’s not available on Turner’s website and I had to custom order each bolt in the correct length, thread size, etc.So in this auction, I have basically two bikes (minus the shock). 2007 TURNER RFX

The frame is used but in great condition, there is no damage to the frame and is in 100% working condition.  All pivots were maintained with Manitou M-prep on a regular basis.  The shock is a custom Avalanche Montie.  The frame is a size large and the color is bronze powdercoat.  There are some areas on the frame that were scuffed from the shift and brake cables.  The rear brake line wore a 1mm deep gouge in the seat stay (see pictures) but has not caused any structural issues.  Bottom bracket threads are in perfect condition as well as headtube and disc brake mount.  Frame and shock specs are listed below, please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I am the original owner of this frame.  I am selling it to buy a new 29″ wheeled Turner Sultan.  There are no functional problems with this frame.  It is a 4 year old used mountain bike, so it does have a few scratches and scuff marks. The only dent or ding I can find is on the down tube right above the bottom bracket.  Is about a 1/4″ in diameter.
